Liaison joins forces with Helia Music Collective on a program juxtaposing early and new music. Newly composed pieces by female composers Emma Logan, Julie Barwick, and others will use the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire chosen by Liaison as inspiration in various ways, whether in form, subject, texture, melody, etc. Stay tuned for more details and performance dates as this project takes shape!

Liaison + Mahsa Vahdat

Liaison Ensemble performs alongside renowned Iranian vocalist Mahsa Vahdat in a program of pieces by masters of Spanish and Mexican Baroque and traditional Persian folk songs. Ms. Vahdat will perform songs from her new a cappella album The Sun Also Rises. Through this partnership, Liaison and Ms. Vahdat explore historic ties between the modal concepts of Persian folk music and Spanish music.

EMA Battle of the Early Bands

During this spirited and entertaining event, groups of outstanding emerging early music ensembles from around the country compete in various non-traditional categories (fastest song, slowest song, best cover, etc.). This event is organized and produced by EMA’s Youth Advisory Board. Come enjoy food, drink, and cheer on your favorite early band! Entry to this event is FREE and open to the public.

Each audience member will have the opportunity to purchase $5 voting chips, which will be awarded to their favorite early band at the end of the competition. The ensemble with the most votes will be awarded the grand prize.

SCU•Presents creates a place for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and share in the life-affirming exploration of the imagination—of creativity—of what it is to be human. The highly successful Music at Noon concert series and music department sponsored festivals foster collaboration between students, faculty, and guest artists who come together to create and share new musical art.

The Vernon Salon Series is a monthly gathering that pairs contemporary music with another art medium. Its aim is to provide Bay Area artists (and others who are visiting!) an informal setting to present and discuss new works with friends.

Tickets: $20  ($15 for emerging artists/students) goes towards the presenting artists and the production of this event, including food and drinks.
